The Park Slope Rapist

2011: Via the NYI email, the team received communication from a female resident of Park Slope (later becoming the NYI member ‘Tango’, former army sergeant) informing them of a recurring series of rapes concentrated in s small area of Park Slope, Brooklyn.

The NYI moved in with a core team to assist Tango in her efforts, already in motion. Using Tango in “bait patrols” per her request, the group was able to record the license plates and descriptions of several overly aggressive males, a few of which attempted to coerce her into their vehicles.

This continued until one night, the NYI began to tail a suspect aggressively following Tango during a bait mission. The group was unexpectedly joined by five patrons of nearby ‘Freddy’s Bar’, who had also been tailing the suspect after watching him attempt to break into two apartments; miraculously, one of the patrons was able to contact a victim of the sexual assaults, who arrived on scene and identified him to the police.

The NYI submitted the rest of the collected vehicle information to the police. Unfortunately, the suspect was released the next day for unknown reasons.

The attacks stopped immediately after this. It is unclear whether or not the suspect the team apprehended was the rapist.
